“A story should have a beginning, middle, and an end, but not necessarily in that order”
– Jean-Luc Godard
Scriptwriting, or screenwriting, differs significantly from crafting poems or short stories, as it serves as a technical blueprint for visual productions like films, short films, and web series. It functions as a fundamental working guide for various technicians involved in the filmmaking process, making scriptwriting a precise and technical art form that requires mastery with the guidance of both academic experts and industry veterans.
In the evolving landscape of cinema and the increasing sophistication of audiences, scriptwriters must comprehend essential elements such as plot development, subplots, conflicts, the three-act structure, the art of dialogue construction, and character development (character arc). These concepts are integral for crafting successful scripts in contemporary times.
At V J Film House School of Cinema, we take students through the intricate process of writing their initial scripts, providing ongoing academic support throughout their journey as scriptwriters. The curriculum is thoughtfully designed to shape aspiring writers into future industry leaders, instilling in them a vision and a commitment to political correctness in their artistic endeavors.
